Yamato Empire Chapter 51

Chapter 51: A Tale of Small Countries

The Congress of Human Nations― it is an important meeting to decide the future of the human nations, hosted by the Yamato Empire, a superpower that suddenly appeared in this world.

Major powers such as the host country, the Yamato Empire, the Balka Kingdom, and the United Kingdom of Albatross are represented as key figures.

Each of them has a population of over 10 million and possesses strong military and economic strength.

They are the stars of both the daytime congresses and nighttime balls, and their presence graced the stage greatly.

……So what about the small countries that are hiding in the shadows, with no military or economic power to speak of?

Let’s take a peek at a few of them.

Every night during the Congress of the Human Nation, an extravagant ball is held in the Lily Room of the Führer’s Palace.

While most people’s attention was focused on the Führer dancing with her maid in the center of the hall, a lone saint going around in the corner of the room with business card in her hand.

“Ah, my name is Roshana from the Celestial Kingdom. Um, thank you very much for your time…”

“My, what a lovely young lady. I am Elizabeth, Queen of the Londeria Kingdom. Is there something I can do for you?”

The person to whom she lowers her head.

It was Elizabeth, the immortal queen who was over 90 years old.

That’s right, what she’s doing right now is building her personal connections. Saint Roshana works hard every day to liberate her homeland, the Celestial Kingdom, which has been occupied by the elves.

“Yes, but I have a favor to request… I’d love to go to the Kingdom of Londeria to study magic.”

I want to learn the new magic of the eastern continent, which is an exotic land far away from my own. I want to do something to save my ruined homeland.

Roshana earnestly tells her so.

Elizabeth who is contemplating the idea of trying to marry Führer Eryutheia with the nobility of her own country in order to ingratiate her nation with her country. She is the kind of person who engages in elaborate schemes.

On the surface, she welcomes you with a smile, while scheming behind the scenes.

She is the very definition of a politician.

But, she’s not a bad person. If someone is trying to work hard for their ruined homeland, she feels like cheering them on and providing as much support as possible.

Even more so when it was the elves, a different race, who destroyed their country.

“My, how studious you are. We also want to learn about the magic of the West, so we would be happy to talk to you about it.”

Elizabeth replied, and so Roshana was set to go to Albatross――or, more precisely, it was decided that she would go to the Londeria Kingdom.

Well, the real aim is not to study magic, but to obtain ingredients for magic potion that can’t be found within the Yamato Empire… Well, if you worry about it, you lose.

The saint’s group is joined by Princess Char of the Freyd Kingdom, who is wearing a very fancy dress.

“Hey, Eliza, could you hear me? … Oh, my apologies, were you in the middle of a conversation?”

“Ah, you’re from Freyd… Excuse me, I’ll be on my way then.”

She can’t afford to interfere with the conversation between powerful nations.

The current Celestial Kingdom is a small country among small countries, which does not own any territory. It’s impossible to liberate her homeland without the help of a major power.

She doesn’t want to do anything that might displease the major power in even the slightest way.

The saint withdraws after slightly bowing her.

And, the conversation behind her back…

“Listen to me, I confess my feelings to Führer Eryutheia by wearing the string underwear that I found in this country.”

“String underwear…?”

“It’s a kind of underwear. It’s so shameful and there is no practicality whatsoever. I was convinced it was for a special purpose the moment I saw it.”

“……So, what was the result?”

“It’s no good, she won’t fall with just that. I ended up being looked at as if I was some pervert.”

Hearing that, Roshana, who was a little familiar with what she does, feels a relief in her heart, thinking “Ah, I’m glad that I didn’t have to do it.”

Now then, let’s take a look at the other small countries.

For example…

“Our city of Juno is an excellent port city, it can serve as a supply base to support your elite army in the Moruro invasion.”

“Ooh, that sounds reliable. Let’s send a survey team to go and investigate.”

The Minister of the Army of the Yamato Empire―― the one nicknamed “Bald Glasses” by Eryutheia.

The one who approached him was a thin man wearing an ancient Roman costume. A citizen representative elected from the Free City of Juno.

The Free City of Juno is the remnant of the Juno Republic, which was destroyed by the Moruro Empire.

This country, which used to exist on the eastern shore of the Balkan Sea, is now part of the Moruro Empire; the country thrived on maritime trade on the Balkan Sea in the past.

However, about a hundred years ago, they were attacked and destroyed by the Moruro.

As it stands now, it only has the city of Juno, which once prospered as the capital and a hub for maritime trade. Only this city, surrounded by the sea and a triple wall, was not attacked by the Moruro.

But there’s nothing you can do with just one city.

Lack of space to create farmable land, which subsequently led to the inability to produce food, because of this issue, most of the citizens have fled to Balka. It cannot function at all without the support from neighboring countries.

Pitiful as they are, they plead for help from the Yamato Empire, hoping for a swift rescue.

There are quite a few entities like this.

The people of the Moruro, who are a nomadic tribe, live mainly in an open plain. They don’t seem to want to go anywhere else.

Whether it was a village deep in the mountains where the army could not get through, a walled city near the sea, or a hamlet in the middle of a forest.

Is a place that the people of Moruro do not care about.

A place where, even though they notice there are people there, they find it troublesome and avoid approaching.

There are still small settlements in these places, so small and insignificant that they wouldn’t even qualify as a country, and they’re asking for help.

As far as the Yamato Empire is concerned, this is not bad news.

Even if it was only at the scale of a small town or village, having a small number of cooperative residents on the ground will help military operations.

In fact, we have almost completed the battle plan and have no intention of changing the strategy at this point, but there is no harm in just saying “we will consider it” or “we will investigate it.”

It’s not like they’re specifically saying they’re going to help.

If you just keep them happy, it might be useful in the future.

If it’s only to this extent, it is indeed adorable.

However, the world is not a convenient place where someone can end up being useful by just keeping their mood good.

Indeed, there are also exist that are troublesome.

“Oh, isn’t that the Admiral of the Yamato? To your beautiful Führer, please liberate the Kingdom of Porlant…”

The one who is talking to Todo, the Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Fleet, is the representative of the Kingdom of Porlant.

“That’s something that should be discussed within the Albatross Union, it’s an internal matter of your country, isn’t it?”

Todo carefully chooses his words in an attempt to deflect the subject.

Yes, this country is really troublesome.

No, it has nothing to do with the country itself, but… Their situation is really not good.

Kingdom of Porlant.

It was once a nation that existed between the Kingdom of Lusiya and the Kingdom of Dorcelli.

Just as the past tense “once” suggests, the Kingdom of Porlant is no longer existing.

They have perished about 10 years ago. At that time, they suffered a devastating blow during the battle against the elves, resulting in a critical national defense crisis.

However, they were not destroyed by the elves.

He could easily solve it by saying “Yes, we will consider it” if they were destroyed by other races.

The problem is the country that destroyed them.

The moment Porlant was ravaged by the elves, Dorceli in the north and the Kingdom of Lusiya in the south simultaneously responded,

“We will dispatch troops to rescue our own people in the Porlant region.”

This story may sound familiar to some, and you can probably guess what happens next.

Having just been ravaged by the elves, the Kingdom of Porlant could no longer resist, It was eventually defeated and destroyed by two other countries.

It has been divided and subsequently incorporated into each country.

It is a serious issue that may potentially cause discord within the human nation. To begin with, as far as the Yamato Empire is concerned, as long as it serves its own market, the affiliation or allegiance of the country doesn’t really matter.

As long as the Kingdom of Polrant is part of the Albatross United Kingdom, non-interference is their stance.

Their independence is an internal matter of the United Kingdom of Albatros, and it is not a matter in which the Yamato Empire should have any interference.

“Let us Polrants fight for the Yamato Führer Eryutheia in the coming battle! We will be gathering volunteers to form an army and dispatch them immediately!”

For Yamato! If it’s this country, they will manage it somehow! Even those major countries like Lusiya and Dorcelli wouldn’t be able to compete with a powerful country that possesses a fleet of steel warships.

If Yamato declared for the liberation of Porlant, both countries would surely recognize their wrongdoing in the occupation and would proceed to free Porlant.

Believing so, Todo lets out a deep sigh when he looks at the Porlant people whose eyes are sparkling.

――The situation with Albatross is complicated and strange.
